Things to do in Central Lima
The historical centre of Lima is a UNESCO
World Heritage Site
Plaza de Armas – changing of the guards
(12pm on the dot everyday and amazing architecture)
San Francisco Convent – Take a guided
tour of one of the oldest cathedrals in South America. While it is more
famous for its surreal underground catacombs the church and surviving
area is still worth a look. Open from 9.30am to 7.45pm and the church
is free to enter. Entrance and tour of the catacombs if S/5 for adults
China Town – Peru is home to one of
the largest chines communities in South America. There are plenty of
decent and cheap Chinese (chifa) restaurants selling anything from spring
rolls to herbal remedies.
Polvo Azules – Any clothing label,
DVDs or model of camera can be found here. All cheap and some real but
mostly they are fakes.
Museo de la Nacion – If you are to
visit only one museum this is the one to go to. One of the biggest and
best museums in Peru it hosts an excellent overview of the many peruvia
cultures. It also houses feature exhibits.
Gamarra – Clothing and fabric – whatever
you want you can get it here, not a place to go if you don’t like
crowds. Spend hours amongst the stalls.
