The
Army of Independence, commanded by the charismatic Argentine General Jose de
San Martin, took control of
on the 15th of July 1821 and together with the most important men in Peruvian
society claimed ideological independence (political independent was not yet

is an impressive civic-military parade at Campo de Marte the 29th of July to
celebrate Independence Day (which is actually the 28th), and a Te-Deum in the
Cathedral with the attendance of all national authorities. Allegoric cars and
